Series background & context
Curse of the Gods drops you into a fantasy world with a brutal social ladder and then hands the story to the least graceful person in it. Willa Knight is a dweller, which means she has no status, no magic, and very little room to make mistakes. Naturally, she keeps making them. When she ends up assigned to serve the five Abcurse brothers at Blesswood Academy, the neat line between servants and the almost-godlike sols starts to crack.
Chaos follows her.
That class divide is the engine of the whole series. Minatsol runs on obedience, worship, and rank. Dwellers are meant to keep their heads down, while sols sit much closer to power and divinity. Willa is not built for quiet submission, and once the Abcurses start paying attention to her, the old rules begin looking shaky. What starts as one disastrous academy assignment turns into something much bigger, with rebellion, divine interference, and pressure coming from both Minatsol and Topia.
The books are funny, but they are never only funny. Willa's bad luck, sharp mouth, and talent for accidental disaster give the series its romcom energy, yet the larger story keeps opening outward into curses, history, and questions about who gets to hold power in this world. The Abcurse brothers matter because they are not just love interests. They are symbols of the system Willa should never touch, and then people she begins to change from the inside.
Each book widens the frame. Trickery, Persuasion, and Seduction build the academy chaos and the core relationships. Strength pushes the cast to Champions Peak and closer to the gods themselves. Neutral steps sideways to follow Emmy and Cyrus for a while, but it still feeds the same conflict. By the time you reach Pain, the series is dealing with the hidden truth behind the worlds themselves.
So what should you expect? A snarky heroine, arrogant men, gods with terrible boundaries, and a story that keeps scaling up while staying attached to character chemistry. Even when the stakes reach world-changing levels, the heart of the series is still that first impossible setup, one unlucky dweller colliding with five powerful brothers and refusing to stay in the place the world picked for her.
