Series background & context
Curse of the Gods starts with a terrible idea and somehow keeps making it worse in the best way. Willa Knight is a dweller, which in her world means powerless, low status, and expected to serve. She is also clumsy, unlucky, and impossible to ignore. When she is assigned to the five Abcurse brothers at Blesswood Academy, a rigid magical society gets shoved badly off balance.
That is bad news for everyone.
The setup matters because the books are built on a harsh divide. Dwellers exist to serve sols, the magically blessed beings above them, and nobody is supposed to cross those lines. Willa does not set out to challenge the system, but once the Abcurses begin protecting her, every old rule starts to look weaker. The more attention she gets, the more danger follows.
What makes the series work is the mix of chaos and scale. On one page it feels like a very funny fantasy romance, with Willa stumbling into trouble and the brothers trying to keep up. On the next page it opens into divine politics, rebellion, old curses, and secrets that can change whole worlds. The books never stay small for long.
The Abcurse brothers are a huge part of the appeal. They are powerful, arrogant, loyal, and increasingly unable to treat Willa like a problem they can walk away from. Their bond with her drives the romance, but the series also cares about friendship, class pressure, and the way Willa changes the people around her without ever becoming polished or perfect.
Across Trickery, Persuasion, Seduction, Strength, Neutral, and Pain, the stakes keep climbing. There are gods who treat people like pieces on a board, dwellers who want more than obedience, and a bigger history behind Minatsol and Topia than anyone first realizes. Neutral briefly shifts the focus, but it still feeds the larger story rather than stepping away from it.
If you want fantasy romance that is funny, fast, affectionate, and slightly unhinged, Curse of the Gods is very easy to fall into.
