Series background & context

Crescent City Fae sits on the more urban-fantasy side of Deanna Chase's catalog. These books are set in New Orleans and center on Willow Rhoswen, a faery who owns a cupcake shop and also works as a vampire hunter. That contrast tells you a lot about the series. It likes sweetness, but it never lets the danger drift too far away.

Willow is carrying real weight from the start. Her twin brother's death hangs over the story, and her love life is a mess in the way only paranormal romance can manage. An ex comes back as a vampire. A childhood crush becomes important again. Powerful supernatural groups all want something from her. The result is a series built on divided loyalties, grief, attraction, and the constant question of who can actually be trusted.

New Orleans gives the books texture, but the power struggle is what drives them. Fae, vampires, witches, and other forces are all moving through the same city, and Willow keeps landing in the middle of it. The danger is bigger and more political than in Chase's cozier small-town series, even when the emotional focus stays on Willow herself.

This series works best in order because the plot is tightly connected. Willow's relationships, her investigation into her brother's death, and the supernatural threats around her all deepen from one book to the next. It is not just a world you visit. It is a mystery and emotional arc that keeps opening outward.

Start with Influential Magic if you want Deanna Chase in a more action-heavy, paranormal mode. These books mix romance with fae and vampire conflict, and they do it with a heroine who is juggling personal pain and supernatural danger at the same time.
