Series background & context

Cordelia Rose Paranormal Mysteries nudges Mara Webb's work a little closer to paranormal investigation. Cordelia Rose starts out as a fired journalist with a brand-new private investigator's license and a great-aunt's agency waiting for her in Brackenlake, West Virginia. She expects lost pets and small domestic cases. What she gets is a cold case, letters from the dead, and a shadow creature that definitely should not exist.

That shift in setup changes the feel of the series. Cordelia is still working in a small town full of secrets, but she is moving through it as a professional investigator, not just a woman who tripped over a body. Her reporting background makes her persistent, skeptical, and good at following threads other people would rather leave alone.

Brackenlake sounds like the sort of place that keeps its past in sealed drawers until somebody starts asking the wrong questions.

The books mix mystery, supernatural menace, and a wider conspiracy feel than some of Webb's cozier witch-town series. There are old deaths that do not sit right, people tracking Cordelia's movements, and dangers that seem tied to the town itself. If you want a Mara Webb series with more PI energy, a darker paranormal edge, and room for longer plot threads, Cordelia Rose is a strong place to jump in.
