Constance Sayers Books in Order

Constance Sayers writes novels where magic sits close to art, romance, and the uneasy pull of the past. Her three books move through different eras and settings, but they share an interest in people trying to understand the strange forces shaping their lives.

She studied writing at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating magna cum laude, then earned a master's degree in English from George Mason University. Before publishing novels, she wrote short fiction for journals and anthologies. Her stories have also received nominations for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net.

Sayers has built her writing life alongside a career as a media executive. She has twice been included on a list of the country's top media people and was also recognized among leading women in media.

Her debut novel, A Witch in Time, arrived in 2020.

The book begins with a disastrous curse in 1890s Paris and follows its consequences through several lives. Juliet LaCompte becomes bound to the painter she loves, while a demon assigned to maintain the curse watches her return in new forms across the decades. Readers who like romance with a supernatural problem at its center will find Paris, old Hollywood, 1970s Los Angeles, and present-day Washington, D.C. all woven into Helen Lambert's fight to end the cycle.

In The Ladies of the Secret Circus, published in 2021, Sayers turns to 1920s Paris and a magical circus with a high price for every wonder it offers. The story alternates between Cecile Cabot's life inside that world and Lara Barnes's search for answers after her fiancé vanishes on their wedding day. Lara's path leads into old family journals, a dark inheritance, and the history of women who have been asked to sacrifice far too much.

Her third novel, The Star and the Strange Moon, came out in 2023. It centers on Gemma Turner, an actress who disappears while filming an experimental horror movie in 1968, and Christopher Kent, a film student drawn to the mystery decades later. It brings together a lost film, obsession, old secrets, and the frightening possibility that a story can trap the people inside it.

Art matters in Sayers's fiction. Painters, performers, musicians, actors, and films are not just background details, they help open doors to the past and make the supernatural feel personal. Her characters often want a second chance, a clear answer, or freedom from an inherited burden.

She has also spent time behind a microphone, hosting a radio show from midnight until six in the morning. Sayers splits her time between Alexandria, Virginia, and West Palm Beach, Florida.
