Cockleberry Bay begins with Rosa Larkin arriving in a small Devon seaside village at a low point in her life. She has inherited a half-ruined corner shop from a benefactor she barely knows, and there is one awkward catch, she cannot simply sell it and take the money. From the start, the series ties Rosa's fresh start to a mystery she has to live inside, not walk away from.

The shop gives Rosa a purpose, but the village gives the books their real energy. Cockleberry Bay is packed with nosy, funny, generous, difficult people who all seem to know a little more than they first admit. Rosa soon finds herself surrounded by new friends, possible enemies, local helpers, romantic complications and Hot, her loyal dachshund, who becomes part mascot, part sidekick and part emotional support.

These novels work because they are about more than one love story. Rosa is trying to make a business succeed, work out who she can trust, and understand the truth about her inheritance and her own family history.
