Series background & context

Coastal Vigilante belongs to Jake Header, one of the most important recurring figures in Matt Lincoln's wider story world. Jake is an ex-Navy SEAL and the leader of a team that works in the gray area where official systems either cannot move fast enough or cannot be trusted to move at all. If Ethan Marston is the steady center of Coastal Fury, Jake is the man you call when the case needs a harder edge.

The series opens with Miami Malice, where Jake and his crew chase a missing teenager through the Azores and back toward Miami. That first book tells you a lot about the line as a whole. Jake's investigations tend to start with a practical mission, a missing person, a dangerous lead, a friend asking for help, and then open into something larger and messier.

That pattern continues through books like Miami's Forgotten, Inherent Danger, and Primary Obstruction. Jake keeps getting pulled into cases involving corruption, kidnappings, fake pharmaceuticals, stolen relics, assassins, tech theft, whistleblowers, and criminal organizations that are often better connected than they first appear. His team is part of the appeal. These are not lone-wolf thrillers. They are team operations, even when the team is under pressure or split across different threats.

Jake is not subtle about doing what needs to be done.

That is the tone difference. Coastal Vigilante has a rougher, more off-the-books feel than some of Lincoln's other series. There is still plenty of investigation, but the books are especially interested in what happens when legal process, institutional delay, or plain corruption leaves good people in danger. Jake steps into that gap.

Miami anchors the line, but the cases travel widely. One book may lean into drugs and local power networks, another into international conspiracies, another into tech and environmental stakes. Even the stranger premises, like cat-and-mouse assassin games or stolen prototypes, still feel at home because Jake's world is built around fast adaptation and hard choices.

Read Coastal Vigilante if you want the darker, more direct end of Lincoln's universe. Jake Header is decisive, loyal, and very willing to wade into situations that more official agents would rather avoid.
