Coastal Liberty follows Angie and Hawthorne after they move out of Jake Header's orbit and into new lives as MBLIS agents in New York. That change in job matters. These books still share Lincoln's taste for danger and travel, but the tone feels a little more like a fresh chapter for two characters who already know how to handle themselves.

The first hook is easy to like. In When in Rome, a murdered professor leads Angie and Hawthorne into organized crime, theft, and a mystery tied to ancient artifacts from Italy. That mix tells you what the series is doing: part investigative thriller, part travel mystery, with cases that begin in one place and widen into something international.

The second book, When in Nova Scotia, keeps that wider angle in play, and later books push the pair into Ireland and Africa. So even though the series is smaller than some of Lincoln's other lines, it covers a lot of ground. Cruise sinkings, backpacking disappearances, political corruption, and dangerous expeditions all fit comfortably inside this branch of the universe.

Angie and Hawthorne are the draw.

They work best as a team. There is a sense that both characters already have experience, history, and trust, which lets the books move quickly without spending too much time proving they belong in the field. They are not learning the basics. They are adapting to a new branch, a bigger range of assignments, and the reality that every new posting brings new enemies.

The settings do more than decorate the plot. Rome brings old artifacts and organized crime. Ireland adds urgency to a missing-person case with national-security overtones. When In Africa pushes the series into environmental politics, corruption, and danger on the savannah. The books use travel well, but they stay rooted in crime-solving rather than turning into sightseeing tours.

If you want a Matt Lincoln series with a globe-trotting feel, a strong two-person lead, and cases that move from academic murders to political rot, Coastal Liberty is a good place to start. Read it for Angie and Hawthorne, and for the way each case nudges them into bigger, stranger territory.
