Coastal Defender shifts the spotlight to Linda Reyes, a Coast Guard officer who is thrown into the deep end almost immediately. Across Bracing For the Storm, Gathering Storm, Into the Storm, and Eye of the Storm, the books build a Caribbean-centered crime story that feels more tactical and more official than some of Lincoln's other lines, even when Jake's methods drag things into murkier territory.

Linda herself is a good reason to read the series. She is not written as a detached action machine. She is stubborn, practical, and emotionally invested in the people caught in these cases. That keeps the books grounded even when the stakes get large.
