Series background & context

Clifton Forge combines small-town romance with suspense surrounding a former motorcycle club in Montana. Devney Perry builds the series around people connected to the club and its garage, a place that offers legitimate work while attracting doubts about what may still be happening behind its doors. The romances involve attraction complicated by secrecy, danger, and conflicting loyalties. A person entering this community has to decide how much to trust its public explanation and how much of its past still governs the present.

The opening novel, Steel King, previously published as Gypsy King, introduces Bryce Ryan, the new owner of the town newspaper. She wants more substantial reporting than routine local announcements and suspects that the club hasn't entirely abandoned its former life. Its members say the clubhouse is closed and the patches are gone. Bryce believes there is more to the garage than repairing Harleys and restoring cars. When a woman is killed and suspicion falls on the club, she becomes determined to expose the people she believes responsible.

Her most difficult subject is Kingston “Dash” Slater.

Bryce's conflict with Dash places professional determination beside personal attraction. She wants answers, and he represents the organization she is trying to investigate. Their encounters therefore matter on more than one level: an impression of the man may influence her understanding of the story, while information about the club can alter what she thinks of him. The murder gives their disagreement immediate stakes. The romantic premise depends on the difficulty of separating what Bryce can establish through reporting from what she begins to feel about the person resisting her questions.

Riven Knight moves the focus to Genevieve Daylee and mechanic Isaiah Reynolds. Genevieve's mother's death has left a trail of troubling family revelations, and her connection to the former gang has made an already unstable life more complicated. Isaiah is protecting her while a murderer remains at large. Their marriage introduces shared domestic space into circumstances defined by uncertainty and limited knowledge of one another. Where the first book begins with an investigation from outside the club's circle, the second places its heroine within the consequences of that circle's secrets.

Start with Steel King or Gypsy King, then continue in publication order. The changing couples give each novel a romantic focus, while the garage, community, and surrounding suspense make the order useful for following the wider connections. Expect a combination of personal vulnerability and public suspicion, with characters whose histories affect whom they can believe. Clifton Forge's central tension comes from the difference between a reputation and a person: discovering what someone has concealed may be necessary both to understand a danger and to decide whether intimacy is possible.
