Chronicles of Ancient Darkness begins with Wolf Brother and takes readers back about six thousand years, to a northern European forest world before farming, when survival depends on knowing the land in exacting detail. The first six books trace Torak's original struggle against the Soul-Eaters, and the story later continues with The Viper's Daughter, Skin Taker, and Wolfbane.

At the center is Torak, a boy left alone after his father's death, and Wolf, the wolf cub who becomes his pack-brother. Torak's closest human ally is Renn of the Raven Clan, sharp, stubborn, and brave enough to challenge him when he needs it. Together they move through a world of clan loyalties, spirits, demons, and mages who use fear as a weapon.

What gives the series its grip is how solid the world feels. Food, fire, weather, boats, bows, herbs, and shelter all matter. The clans are tied to animals and shaped by the landscapes they live in, and the forest is treated not as scenery but as a living force that can nourish, warn, hide, or kill. Wolf is a big reason the series stays in readers' heads. He is not a mascot pasted onto a human quest. He has instincts, loyalties, fears, and a real presence on the page, which gives the pack-brother bond its emotional force. Renn matters just as much. Her friendship with Torak brings warmth, friction, and a welcome refusal to let him brood his way through everything alone.
