Children of the Bard Books in Order

The Children of the Bard series is the long-view payoff to the earlier dragon books. It picks up fifteen years after the end of Oracles of Fire, in a world where dragonkind is no longer a hidden secret and where that knowledge has turned dangerous. Billy and Bonnie Bannister, along with Ashley, are prisoners, and the authorities are experimenting on them to learn the secret of long life.

The new lead generation is Matt and Lauren Bannister, Billy and Bonnie's twins. They grow into the heart of the story very quickly because the central problem is not abstract. Their parents need rescue. Excalibur has been stolen. Soldiers, sorcerous enemies, and demonic forces are moving pieces into place. The children are not just heirs to an old legacy. They are the ones who have to act now.

The series also widens the mythology in a big way. Bonnie receives dream revelations tied to Joran and Selah, the children of Methuselah. Second Eden becomes central again. Tamiel and Arramos press the story toward apocalypse. Healing songs, prison escapes, resurrection power, ancient prophecies, and family history all start colliding.

This is the big family saga version of Bryan Davis.

Because it comes after Dragons in Our Midst and Oracles of Fire, the emotional punch is strongest when you already know Billy, Bonnie, Walter, Ashley, and the wider cast. But what keeps the books readable is that Davis never lets the story become lore for lore's sake. Matt and Lauren are still kids trying to protect people they love while learning what their gifts demand of them.

Expect a bigger cast, higher stakes, and more open spiritual warfare than in the earlier books. This is the part of the dragon world where old promises come due, younger heroes step forward, and the cost of hope gets taken very seriously.
