Changeling Blood is urban fantasy set in Calgary, but it is less interested in streetwise cool than in pressure, obligation, and the awkward reality of being useful to powers you would rather avoid. Jason Kilkenny arrives in the city hoping to disappear. As a half-fae changeling, he wants distance from supernatural politics, not a front-row seat.

Jason ends up pulled into the city's fae court, its uneasy balance of powers, and a conspiracy that keeps threatening to snap the whole arrangement in half.

That makes the series feel grounded even when the magic gets large. Jason is not striding in as the world's most confident chosen one. He is trying to survive, do the right thing, and figure out what his own gifts mean while courts, wizards, and old bargains keep closing around him. His decency is part of the engine. He repeatedly gets drawn deeper because walking away would leave somebody else to pay.

The books also get a lot out of their city setting. Calgary is not a generic fantasy backdrop. It is home, territory, battleground, and political resource all at once.
