Then, naturally, each woman ends up meeting someone who complicates the plan. Passion on Park Avenue gives Naomi a next-door enemy from her past. Love on Lexington Avenue pairs Claire with a stubborn contractor while she tries to move on. Marriage on Madison Avenue turns Audrey's loyalty to her best friend Clarke into a fake engagement that stops feeling very fake.

The friendship is the engine.

These books are less explicit than many of Layne's earlier romances, but they are no less romantic. They still have Upper East Side apartments, polished New York settings, and plenty of tension, but they also spend more time on grief, betrayal, reputation, and rebuilding trust. The women are not just looking for love. They are trying to steady themselves after being made fools of.

That is what gives the series its extra depth. The pact itself is a little funny, a little dramatic, and very understandable, but what keeps the books moving is the sense that these women become each other's chosen support system long before the romances sort themselves out. If you like glossy Manhattan settings with a stronger friendship arc and a softer, closed-door approach to heat, Central Park Pact is a strong place to start.
