Series background & context

Best Mistake is a compact two-book series set in Seattle, and it feels a little more grounded and family-centered than some of Lauren Layne's glossier New York stories. The scale is smaller, but the emotions are not.

Only with You kicks things off with Sophie, who hits rock bottom in spectacular fashion after a Vegas misunderstanding and then has to face the same maddening man at a family dinner. Made for You turns to Brynn and Will, childhood enemies whose long-running friction gets a lot harder to dismiss when he moves in next door.

This is a series built on longing, bickering, and people who know exactly how to get under each other's skin.

The connective tissue is the family circle around the couples. Dinner tables, old history, sibling loyalties, and neighborhood proximity matter almost as much as the romances themselves. That gives the books a warm, lived-in feeling even when the characters are being stubborn.

Expect classic contemporary romance beats, explicit chemistry, and a strong mix of snark and heart. If you like connected love stories that stay close to home, with messy feelings and a solid happily-ever-after, Best Mistake is an easy place to settle in.
