The Celestial Kingdom begins with the two-book story of Xingyin, a young woman raised in secrecy on the moon. She is the daughter of Chang'e, the moon goddess, and Houyi, the famed mortal archer. The series draws inspiration from Chinese mythology, then builds its own world of immortal rulers, magic, monsters, royal courts, and distant kingdoms.

In Daughter of the Moon Goddess, Xingyin's sheltered life ends when her hidden power reveals her existence to the Celestial Emperor. Forced to leave her mother behind, she enters the Celestial Kingdom under an assumed identity. Her goal is clear, she wants to win her mother's freedom. Getting there means learning archery and magic, making uneasy alliances, and discovering how much danger can hide beneath a beautiful court.

Xingyin is the heart of these books. She begins alone and unsure of her place in the realm, but she is persistent, observant, and willing to act when the people she loves are threatened. Her ties to the emperor's son, Liwei, and to the formidable warrior Wenzhi add emotional pressure to a story already shaped by politics, promises, and old grudges.

Nothing stays simple for long.

Heart of the Sun Warrior continues Xingyin's journey as an unsettling new threat spreads through the Immortal Realm. The story moves beyond the Celestial court into new lands and puts its characters through shifting loyalties, hard choices, and battles with consequences for both the mortal and immortal worlds. It completes Xingyin's main arc, so it is best read directly after the first novel.

The setting does not end there. Tales of the Celestial Kingdom is a companion collection of nine stories set before, during, and after the duology. It gives characters such as Chang'e, Liwei, Wenzhi, and Shuxiao room to tell parts of the wider story from their own points of view. The collection works best after the two main novels, particularly because it includes the duology's epilogue.

Immortal also returns to the wider world of the Celestial Kingdom, but follows new leads, Liyen of Tianxia and Zhangwei, the God of War. It is designed as a standalone, so readers can pick it up without finishing Xingyin's books. Across the series, expect romantic fantasy with high stakes, family loyalty, court intrigue, quests, and a world where the gods' help usually comes with a price.
