That journey carries her from a hard, narrow life into the glittering Palace of Nine Hills. Yining also finds an unexpected ally in an adviser from a rival court, but his secrets make trust difficult. The central question is not simply whether Yining can reclaim the ring. Meanwhile, a traitorous queen has taken the throne of the Three Kingdoms, widening the story from one dangerous court to the fate of a kingdom.
