Series background & context

The Cahier volumes are a little different from the rest of Vincent Zandri's bibliography. They are not thrillers, detective novels, or short crime reads. They are writing notebooks, built around the old idea of drafting longhand and carrying your work with you.

The word "cahier" refers to a notebook, and Zandri ties the series to an older tradition of writers working things out on paper before a manuscript ever becomes a book. The inspiration is practical and romantic at the same time. These are meant to be used, not shelved and admired.

That is the whole point.

In spirit, the series fits with Zandri's broader writing life. He has always worked across fiction, journalism, travel writing, essays, and publishing advice, and the Cahier books feel like an extension of that hands-on approach. Instead of giving readers a story, they give them a place to start their own.

So if you land on this series expecting plot, characters, and cliffhangers, you will not find them here. What you will find is a simple, old-school tool for note-taking, drafting, and getting words down before they disappear. For writers, journal keepers, and people who still like the physical act of putting pen to paper, that can be enough.

These books sit at an interesting corner of Zandri's catalog. They remind you that behind the fast-moving thrillers is a working writer who cares about process as much as product.
