Series background & context

Cactus Creek is Violet Duke's warm, funny small-town romance series. Each novel follows a different couple, and every book can stand on its own, but the fictional town gives the series its connective tissue. People know one another's histories, businesses become social battlegrounds, and past couples have a habit of appearing when somebody needs advice, backup, or a well-timed nudge.

The first novel, Love, Chocolate, and Beer, sets the tone. Dani Dobson is Cactus Creek's well-liked brewmaster, while Luke Bradford is the town's new chocolatier. Their neighboring businesses become the center of a playful rivalry, especially when romance becomes part of the competition. Both are stubborn, both know how to push buttons, and neither is as detached as they first pretend.

Small towns make privacy difficult.

The later books widen the circle. Love, Diamonds, and Spades follows Quinn Christiansen, a fiercely self-reliant single mother, and Rylan, the persistent man who refuses to be scared off by her defenses. Love, Tussles, and Takedowns brings together injured veteran Hudson Reyes and Liana Lin, an antique-arms expert with extensive martial-arts training. Their sparring has both a literal and emotional edge.

In Love, Exes, and Ohs, Isaac McKnight and Xoey Montenegro are former partners who have managed to remain best friends, though neither has really moved on. A confession forces them to consider whether friendship is protecting them or keeping them from the relationship they still want.

The series is light on cliffhangers and big on community. The characters carry real wounds, including betrayal, grief, injury, and fear of being left, but the mood remains hopeful. Expect teasing conversations, meddling locals, shared history, and romantic conflicts rooted in what each couple has survived before arriving in Cactus Creek.

Reading in order lets the cameos land more warmly, beginning with Love, Chocolate, and Beer. But readers looking for a particular setup can also choose a book based on the couple that interests them most. Each one provides a complete romance and a return trip to the same lively town.
