Series background & context
The Boyfriend Project series starts with a very modern mess. Three women, Samiah Brooks, Taylor Powell, and London Kelley, discover they have all been dating the same man, and the fallout goes public in a hurry. What could have stayed a humiliating story becomes the start of a real friendship, and that friendship is what gives the series its shape.
Each book follows one of those women as she tries to keep her life moving. Samiah is a tech professional with a big app idea and no time for nonsense. Taylor is a personal trainer trying to keep her business afloat. London is a pediatric surgeon who is brilliant at work and a lot less comfortable when feelings get involved. Their romantic stories are all different, but they are linked by the same promise they make at the start, to invest in themselves before they invest in anybody else.
Friendship is the real spine of the series.
That matters because these books are not only about attraction, though there is plenty of that. Rochon gives each heroine a full life outside romance. Careers matter. Money stress matters. Family expectations matter. So does the question of what it means to be wanted for who you are, not for what you can do for someone else. One book leans into workplace sparks, another into fake dating and a football comeback, and another into enemies-to-lovers chemistry with hospital politics in the background.
The tone is bright, funny, and easy to fall into, but the characters never feel flimsy. Rochon writes women who are ambitious, overworked, loyal, and sometimes a little stubborn, which makes the emotional payoff land harder. She is just as interested in the group chat and the after-work vent session as she is in the kiss.
If you want a romance series where the love stories are satisfying and the female friendship is just as important, this is a strong place to start. Read The Boyfriend Project first for the full setup, then move to The Dating Playbook and The Hookup Plan to watch the trio's bond deepen while each woman gets her own well-earned ending.
