Boyfriend Material Books in Order

Boyfriend Material follows Luc O'Donnell and Oliver Blackwood across three books, Boyfriend Material, Husband Material, and Father Material. Unlike many romance series that reset around a new couple each time, this one stays with the same pair and asks a harder question than how do they get together. It asks how do they keep choosing each other once real life starts getting noisy.

The first book begins with one of Hall's best premises. Luc is reluctantly famous, tabloid bait because of his rock star parents and one especially bad public photo. Oliver is careful, polished, and about as scandal free as a person can be. Fake dating is supposed to solve a short term problem. Instead, it exposes all the ways both men hide from other people and from themselves.

It gets real fast.

The later books move beyond the usual romcom finish line. Husband Material looks at what happens when a couple who are genuinely in love still have very different ideas about marriage, adulthood, and what being settled should look like. Father Material takes them further into domestic life, with friends pairing off, babies arriving, a dog named Spud, and new questions about family, care, and the future.

London is more than a backdrop in these books. The setting gives Hall room for sharp social comedy, messy friend groups, impossible exes, work troubles, and all the little rituals of modern urban life, from terrible public events to good food to group chats that probably should not exist. The books are funny, but they are also interested in class, shame, grief, parental damage, and the awkward business of growing up after you thought you already had.

If you want a romance series with big laughs and a real emotional arc, this is a strong place to start. Luc and Oliver are prickly in different ways, which makes their chemistry great and their communication terrible. Watching them fumble toward honesty is half the fun. The other half is seeing Hall treat couplehood as the beginning of the story, not the end.
