The Highlander's Lady Knight works well as a prequel, setting up the Sutherland line and the larger mood of border tension.

They are chieftains, fighters, heirs, and men trying to prove themselves while the ground beneath them keeps shifting.

That gives the series a slightly more action-forward feel than Borderland Ladies. There are still emotional scenes and plenty of chemistry, but these books lean harder into movement, risk, and the question of whether two people can trust one another when betrayal is common and war keeps interrupting private hopes. Honor, loyalty, and justice come up again and again, often in messy ways.

If you want Scottish historical romance with more campaigning, more rebel energy, and heroines who are quick to pick up a bow, a plan, or a disguise, this is a strong fit. The books share a connected world, so they are best read in order, but each couple gets a complete story. Overall, expect danger, stubborn characters, and romances that have to fight for room inside a very unforgiving landscape.
