Series background & context
Blood & Bone, also known as the Of Blood and Bone trilogy, returns to the Banished Lands about a century after the end of Wrath. The old war is a half-remembered legend, yet its scars still shape every valley, citadel and frontier camp.
On the surface there is peace. The Ben-Elim, a race of warrior angels, have crushed the demonic Kadoshim and now rule much of the world in Elyon’s name. Their justice is swift, their laws harsh, and ordinary people live in the uneasy space between gratitude and resentment.
Into that tension step a new generation of protagonists. Drem is a quiet trapper from the frozen north who stumbles on mutilated corpses and traces of forbidden starstone magic. Riv is a hot-headed trainee soldier at the Ben-Elim fortress of Drassil, desperate to earn her wings. Bleda is a hostage prince kept as insurance for a fragile alliance. Sig, a giant warrior from the earlier saga, stalks the land hunting any sign that the old darkness is returning.
Across A Time of Dread, A Time of Blood and A Time of Courage, their paths twist together as evidence mounts that the Kadoshim were never truly defeated. Demonic priests weave new horrors, angelic factions turn on each other and the ancient Order of the Bright Star tries to rise from legend into living history.
This trilogy blends frontier survival and horror-tinged mystery with the sweeping battles readers expect from the Banished Lands. Snowbound hunts, ruined fortresses and desperate sieges sit alongside quieter moments around campfires, where friendships form and hard choices are weighed.
Blood & Bone stands on its own but rewards anyone who has read The Faithful and the Fallen, echoing old names and revisiting places changed by time and war. For readers who want a slightly darker, faster trilogy that still carries the emotional punch of the earlier books, it’s an excellent next step—or an alternative entry point—into this world.
