Georgette's work, and the care she offers him, tie the series back to its central interest in skin, scars, and the slow reclaiming of a body that no longer feels fully your own.

In In His Hands, the threat comes from a cult rather than a violent ex or a gang. Abby has spent her whole life inside a system built to control her, and escape is only the beginning of the problem. Luc, the brooding neighbor who helps her, is drawn into a story that mixes romance with real suspense, and the book keeps asking what safety looks like after a person has been taught not to trust herself.

So does community. One of the best things about this series is the way Blackwood starts to feel like a real place, not just a backdrop. Characters recur, neighbors notice things, local ties matter, and the town slowly becomes part of the healing process. That gives the books warmth without taking away their edge.

Expect dark contemporary romance with suspense threads, very high emotion, and a lot of attention to recovery, autonomy, and second chances. Anders does not use trauma as decoration. It changes what the characters want, how they move through the world, and what love has to look like if it is going to help rather than harm. If you like stories where tenderness has to be earned, this is probably the series most likely to stay with you.
