Series background & context

Blake Barrett wants a quiet life in the Ozarks. A former Air Force Special Reconnaissance airman, he has already left one demanding world behind. Then someone tries to kill him, and the only workable way to stay alive is to become something he never expected to be: an impostor posing as an assassin.

That identity pulls Blake into a conspiracy operating around a fiercely contested presidential election. He is not a natural killer, and his hesitation to take a life once kept him from an elite special-operations path. Now that part of him becomes both a weakness and the line he refuses to cross without reason.

The role is dangerous by design.

Across the series, Blake moves through hidden networks of arms dealers, terrorists, corrupt officials, and professional operatives. He has to perform convincingly enough to get inside their plans while quietly working out who set him up, why he was chosen, and how to stop the people using violence to shape public events.

The stories are modern political thrillers, but Blake's personal conflict is what gives them their drive. He is dealing with a past he would prefer to leave alone and a new identity that could swallow his real one. Every success brings him closer to people who can expose him, and every mistake puts others in danger.

Start with The Impostor. It lays out Blake's history, the assassination attempt, and the election-centered conspiracy that starts the series. Continue in order with The Renegade Agent and The Shadow Protocol, since the question of whom Blake can trust keeps developing.

Expect travel, covert operations, close calls, and a hero who has to use nerve and deception as much as force. The books are built around high-pressure missions, but they keep asking whether a man can play a violent role without losing himself in it.
