Series background & context

The Bewitched by Chocolate Mysteries blend cozy crime with magic, mythology and a serious love of sweets. The series centres on Caitlyn Le Fey, a young woman who has always felt out of step with her glamorous adoptive family in America. When she learns she was found as an abandoned baby in England, she travels to a tiny Cotswolds village to search for her roots and instead finds murder, witchcraft and an enchanted chocolate shop.

The village of Tillyhenge could have stepped straight out of a postcard, with stone cottages, ancient standing stones and misty fields. Hidden among the tea rooms and pubs is a chocolate shop run by Caitlyn’s formidable grandmother, who most of the locals whisper about as the village witch. The chocolates really are special, laced with subtle magic that can calm tempers, stir up courage or nudge a heart toward romance.

As Caitlyn settles into life behind the counter, she discovers that her own bloodline holds more power than she ever imagined. Spells misfire, potions backfire and her training in the family craft is often messy. Alongside her grandmother and aunt, she learns to wield magic carefully, even as she leans on it to help solve crimes.

Each book throws Caitlyn into a fresh mix of village gossip and supernatural danger. A man is murdered by witchcraft soon after she arrives. A hated housekeeper at a nearby manor is found dead and Caitlyn becomes the chief suspect. Ancient love potions go missing at Midsummer, guests drop dead at outdoor film festivals, and mysterious newcomers bring with them cursed jewels and dangerous secrets.

The supporting cast is part of the appeal. There is Nibs, the small black kitten who may not be quite what she seems, and Viktor, a toothless old vampire whose bark is far worse than his bite. Caitlyn’s not‑quite cousin Pomona, with her big personality and sometimes questionable choices, complicates both investigations and love life. Over all of this hovers Lord James Fitzroy, the reserved aristocrat who owns the local manor and slowly becomes Caitlyn’s romantic focus.

Despite vampires, curses and occasional brushes with dark magic, the overall feel stays warm and witty. The tone leans more whimsical than frightening, with plenty of humour in spell mishaps and village squabbles. Chocolate is threaded through every story, from caramel fountains at masked balls to delicate truffles in the shop window.

For readers who enjoy a classic cozy puzzle but also like their mysteries seasoned with witches, folklore and indulgent desserts, this series offers a long, satisfying escape.
