Author bio
Beth Andrews writes contemporary romance built around people who have been bruised by life but haven't given up on a better future. Her stories often return to small towns, close families, old hurts, and the risky business of letting someone in.
Her early Harlequin Superromance books established the pattern. Not Without Her Family opens the Serenity Springs sequence, while A Not-So-Perfect Past follows a single mother and an ex-con trying to build trust. The latter won the 2010 RITA Award for Contemporary Series Romance.
The people in these books do not have perfect lives.
Andrews has a clear affection for characters who are guarded, stubborn, and a little bit messy. There are single parents, veterans, people carrying guilt, and people returning to places they thought they had left behind. The romances matter, but so do the friendships, children, siblings, and neighbors who make it hard for anyone to disappear completely.
That approach carries through the Diamond Dust trilogy, set around a family winery in Virginia. In A Marine for Christmas, a wounded former Marine and the younger sister of his former fiancée face an unplanned pregnancy and plenty of family tension. The Prodigal Son brings another Sheppard brother home to work at the vineyard, and Feels Like Home looks at what happens when a divorced couple is pushed back into each other's orbit.
Then came the mystery thread in The Truth About the Sullivans. These books are still romances, but the discovery of a long-missing woman's body gives the family in Mystic Point, Massachusetts, a larger question to face. The three Sullivan sisters each get a love story while the truth about their mother's disappearance slowly comes into view.
Her longest connected contemporary series is In Shady Grove. Beginning with Talk of the Town, it follows couples in a Pennsylvania town where news travels fast and histories have a way of catching up with people. The books move through second chances, longtime friends becoming something more, single-parent families, firefighters, veterans, and a snowy Christmas romance.
She also wrote the young adult novel Counting Flowers, about Natalie Hewitt, a high-achieving teenager whose carefully planned life begins to wobble under anxiety, family strain, friendship changes, and unexpected feelings. It is a different age group, but it shares Andrews's interest in people learning that they do not have to earn love by being flawless.
Happy endings are part of the deal.
Andrews lives in Northwestern Pennsylvania with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Away from the page, she has described herself as a coffee lover and hockey fan who also enjoys reading, working out, baking, cocktails, and dessert. That sense of everyday pleasure shows up in her work, where hard conversations can sit beside a barstool joke, a family meal, or a chance to start over.
