But it also keeps an eye on the world that the war changed. Money is tighter. Old class rules wobble. Women are stepping into roles they were not meant to hold for long, and some men are still adjusting to that. Those pressures give the mysteries a little more bite than the teacups and hedgerows first suggest.

That mix keeps the books cozy without making them weightless.
