Badland Heroes Books in Order

The Badland Heroes books are one of the rougher corners of Robyn Wideman's catalogue. They still have adventure, magic, and fast movement, but they trade school settings and bright coming-of-age energy for thieves, mercenaries, political violence, and harder choices.

The series opens with Savage, where Prince Astar turns away from ordinary investigators and hires Kyra, a gifted thief and forger, to look into a deadly plot around the crown. Kyra, sensibly, decides she will need protection and brings in Bazur, a feared half-orc mercenary from the badlands. That pairing gives the books a strong balance between intrigue and brute-force survival.

What makes this series work is the contrast in its leads. Kyra is smart, observant, and used to working from the margins. Bazur is a fighter with a reputation that often enters the room before he does. Put them together in a kingdom full of schemes and grudges, and the books naturally move between investigation, combat, and uneasy trust.

Compared with Wideman's YA fantasy, Badland Heroes feels more adult and more willing to sit in a harsher world. If you want a fantasy trilogy with criminal talent, frontier danger, and a strong action thread running through court politics, this is a good place to look.
