Series background & context
Badges of the Bayou takes Erin Nicholas's Louisiana world and tilts it a little toward danger. The town is still funny, nosy, and full of family interference, but the men at the center of these books wear badges, or at least carry the same protective energy. FBI work, security work, and high-stress jobs bring a little more suspense into the mix.
The series starts with Gotta Be Bayou and works best if you want protective heroes, fake dating, close quarters, and just enough intrigue to keep things moving. It is set around Autre and the wider bayou community, so familiar Landry relatives and earlier couples pop in, but each romance still stands on its own. The tone stays warm and playful even when the stakes rise. Think small-town rom-com energy with an extra push from danger, secrets, and men who are very sure they can handle everything, right up until love proves otherwise.
