The trilogy widens from there. In From Bad to Cursed, the pressure shifts from one haunted house to a larger social world, as Kasey becomes involved with the Sunshine Club, a group that seems to promise confidence, beauty, and belonging. Alexis ends up investigating a threat that plays on insecurity and popularity, which gives the book a different kind of chill. It is still paranormal, but it also works as a story about how badly people want to be accepted.

By the third book, the fallout is impossible to ignore.

As Dead As It Gets raises the stakes again, with Lydia Small's death hanging over Alexis and a new haunting that feels more public, more personal, and harder to escape. Across all three books, the real through line is Alexis learning how to trust other people, protect Kasey without controlling her, and accept that the damage does not disappear just because one crisis ends. The story gets darker as it goes, but it keeps its focus on the girls at the center.

Setting matters a lot here. Katie Alender takes familiar teen spaces, bedrooms, hallways, clubs, neighborhoods, and fills them with dread, so the books stay grounded even when ghosts show up. The tone is creepy but very readable, closer to accessible YA suspense than to gore-heavy horror. If you like haunted houses, social tension, sister dynamics, and a supernatural mystery that grows across multiple books, this trilogy has a clear identity and a satisfyingly spooky arc.
