Series background & context
The Bachelors of Blueberry Cove is one of Donna Kauffman's best small-town setups. The series takes place in Blueberry Cove, Maine, a coastal town full of old families, stubborn locals, and the sort of harbor air that seems made for second chances.
Each book centers on a man with roots in the town and a woman arriving with her own reasons to be wary. In Pelican Point, lighthouse expert Alex MacFarland lands in Blueberry Cove and clashes, then connects, with police chief and lighthouse owner Logan McCrae. Half Moon Harbor turns toward the shipyard and boathouse side of town, while Sandpiper Island widens the circle through the diner, the bird sanctuary, and people who have spent a long time hiding from the past.
What makes the series work is balance. Kauffman gives you easygoing banter and clear chemistry, but she also lets her characters carry grief, guilt, or plain exhaustion. Most of them are rebuilding something, a building, a business, a reputation, or a sense of home.
The town is part of that rebuilding.
So expect lighthouses, boats, diners, local gossip, and a lot of practical work alongside the romance. These books are warm, coastal romances about lonely people being folded back into community, sometimes whether they planned on it or not.
