Audrey Blake is the shared pen name of Regina Sirois and Jaima Fixsen, two novelists who write historical fiction together from different parts of the North American prairies. Sirois is from Kansas, while Fixsen is from Alberta, Canada. They met as finalists in an online, survivor-style writing contest, then built a friendship by trading manuscripts and talking through their work.

The partnership grew before the pen name did. For years, each was a trusted early reader for the other, working chapter by chapter through drafts with very different premises. Their collaborative name has a family connection too: Audrey was Sirois's oldest daughter's name, and Blake was Fixsen's oldest son's.

Sirois came to fiction with a deep interest in the past. She studied history in college and minored in creative writing, began with contemporary stories while raising two young children, and later turned to historical fiction. Her novel On Little Wings won the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award.

Fixsen took a different route. She had long imagined alternate endings while reading, but she did not set out to become a writer. After leaving her work as an occupational therapist following the birth of her third child, she wanted a creative outlet she could pursue from home, and writing fit.

Their method is less about dividing credit than passing a story back and forth. They plan the characters and direction together, take scenes according to interest or momentum, then revise each other's pages until both have shaped the final version. That shared process suits books built around research, big questions, and women trying to claim room in worlds that would rather overlook them.

They like putting practical people under pressure.

Their first novel as Audrey Blake, The Girl in His Shadow, introduces Nora Beady, a gifted young woman trained in surgery in 1845 London, when medicine is firmly closed to women. Readers who enjoy the book often come for the medical history, but Nora's need to keep working while hiding what she can do gives the story its forward pull. The Surgeon's Daughter follows her to Bologna, where her ambitions and an urgent new surgical procedure put her in conflict with the men who control the profession.

With All in Her Hands, the Nora Beady story returns to London during the 1849 cholera epidemic. The book brings Nora's work with midwives and public health into focus, while keeping the personal cost of her career close at hand. In the standalone The Woman with No Name, the pair move to the Second World War and tell a fictionalized version of resistance agent Yvonne Rudellat's dangerous work in occupied France.

Sirois and Fixsen continue their long-distance collaboration from Kansas and Alberta. Their books return again and again to history's gaps, especially the lives of women whose work mattered even when the official record failed to give them much space.
