Author bio

Ashley Emma writes Amish stories that blur the line between real life and fiction. From her home in Maine she sets many of her novels in the small Amish community of Unity, drawing on years of friendships there.

As a homeschooled kid she spent hours stapling printer paper into homemade books and dreaming up characters. She drafted her first full novel as a young teenager and went on to self publish a book while still in high school. By her mid twenties she had already written a stack of manuscripts and knew writing was no longer just a hobby.

In her early twenties she took a leap that changed her career. Wanting her Amish fiction to feel authentic, she went to Unity and stayed with several Old Order families, milking cows, helping with canning days, riding in buggies, and filling notebooks with observations. The experience became the basis for her journals about Amish life and quietly reshaped the way she writes about faith, family, and community.

Those weeks in Unity sit at the heart of almost everything she has written since.

Many readers first meet her through the Covert Police Detectives Unit novels, beginning with Undercover Amish. These books follow detectives, former soldiers, and brave Amish heroines who confront domestic abuse, human trafficking, and other crimes that spill into a quiet rural settlement. The stories carry plenty of danger and investigation, but they are just as interested in forgiveness, second chances, and what it costs to tell the truth. Along the way the series has picked up contest recognition, including a national book award for Amish Alias.

Emma also loves retelling familiar stories in surprising ways. In the Amish Fairytale books, including titles like Amish Snow White, Amish Beauty and the Beast, and Amish Cinderella, she drops fairy tale plots into barns, farmhouses, and Maine snowstorms. Her Amish Bible Story novels reimagine figures such as Abraham and Sarah, Hosea and Gomer, and Joseph in a modern Anabaptist community, letting readers see old Bible narratives through the lens of everyday chores, miscarriages, family feuds, and quiet acts of courage.

More recently she has turned to classic literature and holiday tales. The Amish Classics novellas borrow the emotional core of stories like Romeo and Juliet and The Gift of the Magi and rebuild them around young couples in Unity who are torn between family expectations and their own hearts. Short Christmas stories let her lean into hope, reconciliation, and small seasonal miracles.

Alongside her fiction Emma writes practical books for readers and writers. Titles such as Fearless Author, Legit Work-At-Home Jobs, and 30 Days of Amish Prayers reflect her belief that stories and skills should be shared, whether that means helping someone find a flexible job or walking them through a book launch step by step. Through her imprint, Fearless Publishing House, she coaches other writers who want to publish on their own terms.

Today she is a full time author and publishing coach, balancing deadlines with school runs and family dinners. She still lives in Maine with her husband and children, not far from the roads that lead to Unity. When she is not drafting a new romantic suspense plot, she is often answering reader emails, studying real world issues like trafficking and abuse, or planning her next research trip.

Across genres her work keeps circling the same ideas, that ordinary people can show startling bravery, that communities can be both flawed and fiercely loving, and that grace has room even for those who feel far from it. Whether you start with a journal about her time among the Amish or dive straight into a high stakes undercover case, you can expect small human moments, steady faith, and characters who fight hard for the people they love.
