Author bio

Ashley Antoinette Coleman is a powerhouse of contemporary urban fiction, celebrated for blending gritty street narratives with sweeping, emotionally charged romance across series like The Prada Plan, Ethic, Butterfly, and The Cartel.

Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, she grew up in a city shaped by factory closures, poverty, and violence, and she has often described how reading and writing became her refuge and her way of making sense of the chaos around her.

As a teenager she met fellow Flint native JaQuavis Coleman, and their relationship quickly turned into a creative partnership. The two began daring each other to write better stories, eventually combining their work into a manuscript that became Dirty Money, their debut novel.

Discovered while still in their late teens by bestselling publisher Carl Weber, Ashley and JaQuavis signed an early book deal, left college, and threw themselves into full‑time writing. Together they built a reputation as one of the youngest Black duos ever to hit the New York Times bestseller list, largely on the strength of their explosive Cartel saga.

In collaboration she has penned cult favorites like Murder Mamas, The Trophy Wife, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, and the Dirty Money trilogy, earning a devoted street‑lit readership for cinematic pacing, twisty plotting, and characters who feel both glamorous and grounded in real struggle.

At the same time, Ashley has carved out a powerful solo brand. Her breakout series The Prada Plan turned Disaya “Yaya” Morgan’s story of survival, obsession, and reinvention into a modern street‑lit classic, while standalones like Moth to a Flame showcased her gift for tragic love stories that still feel fiercely human and hopeful.

In recent years she has expanded that universe with interconnected series. Ethic follows reformed kingpin Ezra Okafor as he wrestles with grief, fatherhood, and the cost of keeping his family safe, and its spin‑off Butterfly centers on Morgan Atkins as she navigates love, trauma, and the possibility of healing after unimaginable loss.

Across her work, Ashley returns to recurring themes: Black love in all its complications, the long shadow of generational trauma, the pull of fast money, and the question of whether damaged people can truly change. Her heroines are ambitious, flawed, and fully dimensional, and she has spoken often about wanting her pages to be a safe space for Black women to be messy, vulnerable, and powerful at once.

With dozens of co‑written and solo novels, multiple bestsellers, and a fiercely loyal fanbase often called the Ash Army, Ashley Antoinette continues to write at a relentless pace, building an ever‑expanding world of interconnected stories. Whether she is chronicling cartel empires, Hollywood excess, or intimate family dramas, her work keeps pushing urban fiction forward while staying rooted in the city that shaped her.
