Author bio

Annie Nicholas writes paranormal and science fiction romance that likes to wander off the expected path. Her books are full of vampires, wolves, dragons, aliens, and the kind of people who look at a terrible situation and somehow make it funnier, hotter, or more dangerous. She has described her work as paranormal romance with a twist, and that label fits her well.

She has said that making up stories started early. Pretend play was a big part of childhood, and that habit never really left. She still talks about imaginary adventures as if they are a perfectly reasonable way to spend the day. The difference now is that she writes them down.

That playful streak shows up all over her fiction. In Not His Dragon, a woman who thinks she is human gets pulled into dragon politics and an unruly romance. In Bait, a vampire slayer is sent into Budapest as live bait and ends up questioning everything she thought she knew. In Starved for Love, a succubus tries to balance survival, sex, and the simple wish to be loved for real. And in Trace, Nicholas takes her taste for danger into science fiction, mixing aliens, undercover agents, and a trafficking investigation with a love story.

She also likes building groups, not just couples. The Chicago wolf packs in the Vanguards books, the oddball training camp in Bootcamp of Misfit Wolves, and the supernatural tangle of New Port all feel lived in. Readers who stay for more than one book get the fun of seeing side characters step forward, fall in love, and drag their friends into trouble.

A lot of her stories have bite, but they also have humor.

That matters.

Nicholas often writes about outsiders, people who do not fit neatly into the role their world assigned them. Some are physically powerful and socially awkward. Some are underestimated. Some are literal monsters trying to build ordinary lives. Again and again, she comes back to belonging, loyalty, chosen family, and what love looks like when instinct, duty, or hunger keep getting in the way.

She lives in Vermont, and that setting seems to suit her. In public bios and interviews, she comes across as someone who is just as happy talking about hills, seasons, and home life as she is talking about vampires or alien matchmaking. She has described herself as a mother, wife, and daughter, and she has also spoken about working as a nurse while writing. That mix, everyday responsibility on one side and imaginative escape on the other, gives her books an appealing balance. The emotions stay grounded even when the plot gets gloriously strange.

She has also mentioned hobbies like hiking and gardening, which feels right for a writer so interested in creatures, territory, instinct, and place. Her worlds may include dragon castles, vampire courts, magical gates, and off-world resorts, but they are usually anchored by practical details. People still have jobs. They still worry about rent, family, food, and whether they can trust the person standing next to them.

If you are new to Annie Nicholas, expect romance first, but never just romance. Expect banter, danger, and odd corners of the supernatural. Expect leads who are messy, stubborn, and easy to root for. And expect a writer who seems to genuinely enjoy the chaos she creates.
