Where should I start?
If you want a dark assassin epic: Assassin → Protector → Slayer → Savior
If you prefer thieves, revenge, and guild politics: Child of the Night Guild → Thief of the Night Guild → Queen of the Night Guild
If you like military fantasy: Shields in Shadow → Battle for Peace → Steel and Valor
If you want a younger cast and a big adventure arc: Trial of Stone → Crucible of Fortune → Storm of Chaos
For science fiction and cyberpunk action: Assassination Protocol → Terminal Secrets → Cyber Strike
Author bio
Andy Peloquin was born in Japan to French and American parents, grew up there, and later spent part of his teen years living and traveling around Mexico. He has described himself as a third-culture kid, and that mix of places, languages, and viewpoints helps explain why so many of his books feel lived-in rather than locked to one tidy idea of home.
That wide-angle background shows up all through his fiction.
He was a reader long before he was a published novelist. As a kid, he gravitated toward stories like Sherlock Holmes, The Phantom of the Opera, and Father Brown mysteries, then later fell hard for science fiction and fantasy through writers such as Edgar Rice Burroughs, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Orson Scott Card. You can feel both sides of that reading life in his work, the taste for adventure, and the interest in damaged, complicated people.
Writing came in stages. An early attempt produced In the Days, but the book that really launched his career was Blade of the Destroyer in 2015. He has been open about learning the business and craft of publishing as he went, revising, reworking, and expanding his worlds instead of treating a first version as untouchable.
A lot of readers meet him through the Hunter of Voramis books, whether in the original Hero of Darkness and Last Bucelarii novels or the larger, later Darkblade series that begins with Assassin. Those books follow an immortal assassin bound to a cursed blade, and they show Peloquin's sweet spot right away, hard fights, grim choices, and a lead character who looks like a monster from the outside but keeps making deeply human decisions.
He likes broken situations more than clean heroics.
That carries into the rest of his catalog. Child of the Night Guild and the Queen of Thieves books lean into thieves' guild politics, survival, and revenge through Ilanna's rise from abused apprentice to major player. Trial of Stone and the Heirs of Destiny novels bring in a younger cast and a broader adventure story without losing the danger or the moral mess. On the science fiction side, Assassination Protocol opens the Cerberus series, where black-ops missions, cybernetics, and conspiracies take over, but the focus stays on character pressure and the price of violence.
He has also written about the mind and the way people are too often misunderstood. After his own autism spectrum diagnosis, he spoke openly about his interest in psychology, behavior, and emotional wiring. That thread connects naturally to Different, Not Damaged, a dark fantasy collection centered on people dealing with trauma, difference, and the way the world misreads them.
Today, Peloquin continues to write fantasy and science fiction while also working as a freelance writer and staying very active as a reader himself. He lives in Canada, has talked about balancing writing with family life, and helped create Little Stack, a tool for tracking the ever-growing to-be-read pile. That feels very on brand for him, a working writer who still sounds like a fan first.
And that may be the easiest way to understand his books. He writes the kinds of stories he would want to pick up himself, dark, fast, character-driven, and never too far from the people trying to survive inside the chaos.
