Series background & context

The Agent Jade Monroe FBI Thriller series tracks Jade's move from county level detective work in Wisconsin to the national stage. After the harrowing cases in the Detective Jade Monroe books, she joins the FBI's Serial Crimes Unit, bringing small town grit and hard earned experience into a world of cross country manhunts and high profile killers.

In Snapped, Jade has just completed her FBI training when she and new partner J.T. Harper are sent to Houston. The city has seen a string of brutal murders, and local law enforcement believes a serial killer is stalking the streets. As the body count climbs, Jade and J.T. race to find a pattern in the violence. The turning point comes when Jade, working alone late at night, has a sudden insight that leads her straight into the killer's path and leaves her own life hanging in the balance.

Justified pushes the pair into another fast moving investigation. They are chasing a murderer who seems to leave carnage and little else behind, a "ghost" spotted only from a distance. Every time they arrive in a new town, the killer has already moved on. When a victim survives and can describe her attacker from a hospital bed, the case shifts, becoming more personal and more dangerous for Jade.

In Donors, winter and horror combine in Gary, Indiana, where bodies of women are being found frozen and drained of blood. With no clear time of death and few forensic clues, Jade wonders whether they are dealing with ritualistic killings or something more grounded but equally disturbing. The investigation circles around an occult leader who may be a red herring or the key to understanding what is happening to the missing women.

Leverage hits closer to home. J.T. Harper disappears without warning, and his sister, Julie, vanishes as well. The Serial Crimes Unit drops everything to find their colleague, only to discover that Julie is being used as a bargaining chip by someone with a grudge against J.T. A video message delivered to the FBI makes it clear that past cases are coming back to bite, and the kidnapper is willing to spill blood to make a point.

By the time of Malice, Jade and J.T. are sent to Omaha, Nebraska, where a series of similar murders of women has local police on edge. With a misogynistic killer apparently targeting the city's women and no solid leads, they have to work closely with a department that is weary and frustrated. A chance encounter with a stranger with striking blue eyes flips the case on its head and puts Jade directly in the killer's sights.

Across the series, Sutter keeps Jade grounded. She brings her background from North Bend into every field office, trusts her instincts, and cares deeply about victims and colleagues. The cases are intense and sometimes gruesome, but the books also pay attention to partnerships, office politics, and the toll that chasing predators takes on an agent over time. For readers who met Jade as a county detective, this series shows what happens when her world gets much bigger, and much more dangerous.
