Series background & context

Age of Magic: Wish Quartet shifts into a near future, alternate reality that looks a lot like our world at first glance and then peels back the curtain. The series begins with Josephina "Jo" Espinosa, a hacker for hire working in the Lone Star Republic, a fragment of a fractured United States where corporate interests and shadowy governments collide.

Jo's life ends in a hail of bullets during a raid gone wrong, only for her to use the scraps of family magic her grandmother taught her to summon a wish granter with her dying breath. Her wish is simple and impossible at once: save her best friend's life. The price is everything she was. Her existence in the mortal world is erased and she wakes as the newest member of the mysterious Society of Wishes.

The Society lives in a mansion outside normal time, a place stocked with every comfort except freedom. Its members are bound to grant the wishes of mortals, traveling through magic and alternate realities to untangle the threads that lead to each request. Some wishes are small and sweet, others are knotted into crimes, tragedies, or far reaching consequences Jo is only beginning to understand.

Each book raises the stakes. Society of Wishes introduces Jo to the work, the rules, and to Snow, the aloof leader who becomes the focal point of both her questions and her heart. Circle of Ashes forces the team to confront an impossible wish and the terrifying idea that failing to grant it could destroy them. In Birth of Chaos, Jo decides the only way forward might be to tear the Society down, even if it means aligning with unlikely allies, including an android serial killer and a demigod with his own agenda.

Age of Magic pulls back to show the larger tapestry, revealing that the Society's work is tied to an ancient conflict between gods of Creation, Destruction, Chaos, and Oblivion. Jo, Snow, and their friends are caught between pantheons and mortals, trying to end a divine war without losing themselves. The novella Prince of Gods adds another angle, following a demigod of Creation torn between saving the world and the woman he loves.

Tonally, the series blends urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and science fiction touches like alternate timelines and technology. Wishes come with sharp edges, and Jo's destructive magic means fights can turn explosive in an instant. Romance is a slow burn threaded through heists, moral dilemmas, and revelations that reframe everything you thought you knew about the Society.

Age of Magic stands on its own, but seeds ideas that echo through other works in the same universe. If you enjoy twisty plots, found family under pressure, and stories where every wish has a cost, this quartet offers a complete, high tension ride.
