Adrian Phoenix Books in Order

Adrian Phoenix writes urban fantasy that brings together vampires, fallen angels, hoodoo, crime, romance, and a streak of dark humor. Her best-known work includes the Maker's Song novels, which begin with A Rush of Wings, and the Hoodoo books, launched with Black Dust Mambo. Phoenix also shifts the focus in the Hoodoo books. Black Dust Mambo follows Kallie Riviere, a Cajun hoodoo apprentice whose visit to New Orleans turns into a murder investigation. Black Heart Loa sends Kallie back into trouble involving unstable magic, family danger, and a hurricane heading for the Gulf Coast. The series uses New Orleans and the surrounding bayous as places where history, magic, and everyday life keep colliding.

The scary stuff comes with jokes.

Her standalone Thinning the Herd takes a lighter route through urban fantasy. It follows Hal Rupert, an Oregon animal control officer investigating disappearances and an unusual rise in werewolf activity. The setup lets Phoenix lean into oddball characters, local color, and a hero who is trying to solve a supernatural mess while also winning over the woman he loves.

Phoenix has said she enjoys reading, movies, hiking with her granddog, and spending time with friends. She also has a fondness for creepy things, paranormal investigations, and music, especially Trent Reznor. Her official biography places her in Springfield, Oregon, with two cats, two sons, three grandchildren, and two granddogs.
