A Witch Among Warlocks is one of Foxglove's funniest series. It begins with Charlotte learning that her mother was a witch and that the magical world has plans for her, not especially sensible ones. Instead of a graceful entrance into hidden magic, Charlotte gets thrown into Merlin College, an all-male warlock school full of old rules, stranger customs, and enough outdated gender nonsense to make anyone start a fight.

Charlotte is happy to oblige.

The setup gives the series a great comic engine. Charlotte is the only young woman in a space built for young men, and the magical culture around her feels stuck in a very polished version of the nineteenth century. Social calls, formal manners, restrictions on contact, and rigid roles all keep crashing into Charlotte's refusal to stay quiet. Around her gather the core relationships that drive the series: Firian, the fox familiar who has been watching over her for years, Alec, the incubus roommate nobody thinks is a good idea, Montague, the vampire with his own long history, and Harris, the rival who becomes much more than that.

Under the fun, there is real plot. Charlotte's powers, and then the loss of those powers, matter. So do the councils governing witches and warlocks, the tensions between institutions, the lure of darker magic, and the way magical history has been shaped to keep certain people in charge. Later books pull in necromancy, travel, family secrets, and enough supernatural politics to make the school story feel bigger without losing its voice.

This is also a useful series if you plan to read more deeply into Foxglove's connected magical world. The witch-and-warlock society here feeds directly into Finishing School for Faery Brides and brushes up against the same broader magical structures that show up elsewhere. But it never feels like homework. Charlotte's personality keeps things moving.

If you want Foxglove with magical academia, snark, steamy romance, and a heroine who keeps poking holes in everybody else's assumptions, this is a strong place to start. Read the books in order, because Charlotte's relationships and the magical stakes both build steadily. For readers who like school stories but want more grown-up romance and more willingness to make fun of the system, A Witch Among Warlocks delivers exactly that.
