Zombie Love is Susan Hatler doing paranormal YA with a playful, slightly spooky twist. The premise sounds wild, and it is, but the story still runs on teen feelings, awkward crushes, and the fear of not being seen for who you really are. That mix makes it feel unusual without drifting too far from the emotional focus Hatler is known for.

The series opens with Amy Love, a regular teen who is mainly worried about things like a date, her friends, and what the night might bring. Then a Ouija board session goes very wrong. Before long, Amy is dealing with Jonathan Miller, a dead sixteen-year-old boy whose spirit winds up using her body like a zombie while she is still trapped inside it.

That escalates quickly.

From there, the story becomes part romance, part paranormal mystery, and part identity crisis. Amy has to figure out what happened to Jonathan, how to get her body back under control, and who will actually believe her. Jonathan is not just a gimmick or a monster. He is scared, confused, and stuck, which shifts the story away from simple horror and toward something more emotional.

The setup lets Hatler play with a few fun ideas. What does it mean to feel invisible? How do you explain yourself when nobody else can see what is happening? What happens when a girl trying to manage her own life suddenly has to share space with someone else's unfinished one? Those questions keep the book moving even when the paranormal elements get strange.

Readers should not expect grim zombie fiction here. The tone is much lighter than that. There is suspense and there are creepy moments, but the real draw is the blend of humor, romance, and supernatural chaos. Amy's date, her friendships, and Jonathan's history all tangle together in ways that make the story feel fast and very teen.

If you like YA that mixes ghosts, body-swap energy, mystery, and a sweet romantic streak, Zombie Love offers a fun variation on all of that. It is weird in a good way, and it keeps the focus where Hatler usually does, on characters trying to make sense of impossible situations without losing heart.
