Series background & context
The Yellowstone books are where Peggy Henderson's western romance world feels biggest. What starts as one woman's impossible trip into the mountain man era quickly becomes a long family story that stretches across generations, eras, and some very strange corners of Yellowstone.
At the center is the Osborne family. Aimee and Daniel give the series its first emotional anchor, then children, descendants, and connected families keep widening the circle. Henderson revisits them through full-length novels, novellas, and short pieces, which makes the series feel lived in rather than neatly boxed off.
The setting matters just as much as the family line. Yellowstone is written as raw country first, park second. Readers spend time in remote valleys, winter storms, trapper camps, and later periods where the land is beginning to be understood in a different way. Henderson clearly enjoys the tension between wild place and human plans.
Running under the romance is the mystery of how time travel works in this world and why certain people are drawn into it. Later books add more about the Sky People and the deeper history behind the device that moves characters between centuries.
The result is a series that can be tender one minute and adventurous the next. If you want family saga, frontier survival, and a little mythology wrapped into western romance, this is the page you want.
