Series background & context

Xoe Meyers is Roethle's first series, and you can feel how much fun she is having with it. The basic setup is simple. Xoe is a teenage girl trying to get through school and regular life. Then regular life stops being regular. A new guy shows up. Her best friend gets pulled into werewolf trouble. Vampires, witches, demons, and family secrets start crowding the edges until there is no edge left.

Xoe is a good guide for this kind of story because she is not cool in a polished way. She is reactive, funny, stubborn, and often overwhelmed. That makes the series read like young adult urban fantasy in the most energetic sense. The stakes can be serious, but the books still leave room for awkward feelings, friend drama, and the very specific chaos of being young while the supernatural world keeps knocking over the furniture.

The cast grows with the series. Friends become allies. Love interests get messier. Family gets stranger. Xoe's connection to demons, especially through her father and the rules of the demon world, gives the later books a bigger arc than the early school-and-small-town setup suggests. What starts with one weird arrival turns into a longer story about identity, protection, and learning what she is capable of.

The tone matters here.

These books are lighter on their feet than some of Roethle's darker fantasy. Even when danger spikes, there is usually some humor, banter, or exasperated commentary close by. If you like your paranormal fiction with actual teens, actual feelings, and a little supernatural clutter all piled together, Xoe Meyers hits that note well.

Start with Xoe and keep reading in order. The books are quick, connected, and best when read as Xoe slowly figures out that the monsters around her are less surprising than the truths about herself. If you want the place where Roethle first began mixing fantasy, romance, and character-driven chaos, this is it.
