Series background & context

Christie Golden's Blood Ties is an official prequel novel to World of Warcraft: Midnight. It follows Arator the Redeemer, the son of Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner, at a point when family history and new danger are pulling him in the same direction.

Arator grew up under the weight of famous parents. Turalyon and Alleria vanished through the Dark Portal when he was a baby, then returned after experiencing a millennium of war against the Burning Legion while only decades had passed on Azeroth. Reuniting did not erase that distance.

Family history can be its own battlefield.

After events in Khaz Algar, Arator investigates reports of a strange glow in the ruins of an abandoned Legion base. The journey brings him into contact with old scars, unfamiliar truths, and the complicated legacy of the Windrunner family.

The book works as a character-focused bridge into the Midnight era. It is a good choice for readers interested in Arator, Alleria, Turalyon, and the parts of Warcraft that treat cosmic history as something a family still has to live with.

Start with Blood Ties. It is the first listed novel in this Midnight tie-in line.
