Moon-Kissed

by Amelia Hutchins

2020

Assassin Alexandria Helios will cross the Kingdom of Night to find her missing brother and a cure for the moon sickness killing their people. Caught in a trap laid by Torrin, the Night King’s commander, she’s forced into an uneasy partnership that feels far too much like fate.

Series background & context

Within the Darkness shifts the focus to a moon‑touched world where the wrong phase of the sky can kill you.

The first book, Moon‑Kissed, follows Alexandria Helios, a deadly assassin from the Moon Clan whose people are being ravaged by a mysterious moon sickness. When her brother vanishes while searching for a cure in the Sacred Library, Alex sets out after him, crossing into the Kingdom of Night.

There she walks straight into a trap set by Torrin, the hard‑edged commander of the Night King’s army. He expects an easy mark; instead he finds a warrior every bit as lethal as he is. Their initial cat‑and‑mouse game turns into an uneasy partnership when they realize they’re caught in a much larger plot that threatens both of their worlds.

The ongoing tension in this series comes from colliding loyalties. Alex is sworn to her clan and her missing brother, Torrin to his king and his army, and neither of them can afford to show weakness. At the same time, the draw between them keeps deepening, fed by shared battles, grudging respect, and the fact that each sees the cracks in the other’s armor.

Expect high‑fantasy stakes—ancient libraries, cursed armies, political maneuvering between courts—mixed with the kind of intense, dark romance Amelia Hutchins is known for. The setting leans colder and sharper than some of her other series, full of snow, shadow, and blood under a hostile moon.

Within the Darkness stands slightly to the side of the main Fae universe, but it carries many of the same themes: found family, fate gone wrong, and women who refuse to back down even when the entire world seems determined to break them.
