One arc plays like an urban occult thriller as she learns to survive the first wave of enemies circling the Witchblade. Another leans into conspiracy and escalating supernatural warfare, with new forces trying to seize the artifact for their own ends. By the third volume, the story jumps into a ruined future New York ruled by demons, which lets the series push even harder into horror.

What you should expect is a modern supernatural comic with sharp edges. There are fights, monsters, and artifact mythology, but the real through line is responsibility. Alex keeps getting forced to answer the same ugly question: what kind of person can you stay when power lands in your hands and disaster follows close behind? Kittredge's answer is messy, dark, and very readable.
