Series background & context
White Ops is Declan Finn's military space opera series, centered on Sean Patrick Ryan, a mercenary and telepath known across the galaxy as a very dangerous person to underestimate. He is large, loud when the occasion calls for it, and usually surrounded by trouble before he has finished a drink.
The trouble is never small.
In White Ops, humanity and its allies are drawn into war with the Pharmakoi, a lesser-known alien power armed with technology far beyond what it should possess. Sean realizes that someone has supplied the attackers and pointed them toward their targets. Finding out who is behind the war becomes more important than winning one battle.
Sean gathers a group of elite operatives for missions too sensitive or too risky for conventional forces. Their name is a joke with a serious purpose. They are not black ops, they are White Ops, a team working outside the usual structures because the threat has outgrown the people in charge.
The series combines alien cultures, military campaigns, conspiracy plots, and large doses of action. Sean's team faces hostile governments, interstellar politics, strange weapons, monsters from beyond familiar space, and human leaders willing to create a disaster if it helps them hold power. The scope grows quickly, but the books keep returning to the question of whether a loyal team can stay intact under that kind of pressure.
Politics Kills brings the danger closer to Earth when a president's actions threaten Sean's loved ones and political control becomes a form of warfare. Main Street D.O.A. sends the team to a planet-sized theme park where a supposed break turns into a hostage crisis. Later books continue the campaign against threats both on Earth and farther out among the stars.
Start with White Ops, then read Politics Kills, Main Street D.O.A., Gathering Storm, and Eye Of The Storm. These books move quickly and share a continuing cast, so the order matters.
