The Man I Need

by Shanora Williams

2019

The man she married is not the man who makes her feel protected. As danger closes in, she must decide whether Marcel Ward is worth risking everything for.

Series background & context

The Ward books are forbidden romance with a strong rescue thread running underneath. The story begins with a woman who thinks she is simply hiring a landscape designer to fix the backyard at her new home. Then Marcel Ward walks in, older, steady, and a lot more dangerous to her peace of mind than a man with dirt on his boots has any right to be.

What makes the duet work is that Marcel is not just attractive. He feels safe. He is calm where the heroine's life is not, and that contrast gives the romance its shape. The books are not really about casual temptation. They are about what it means to see a better life right in front of you when you are still trapped inside the wrong one.

That trap matters.

By the time The Man I Need rolls in, the danger is no longer emotional only. The heroine is forced to face the fact that the man she married is not the man who can actually protect or understand her. Marcel becomes the person tied to tenderness, escape, and the possibility of starting over, which raises the stakes of every choice.

So this page is a good fit if you like older-man romance, protective heroes, and stories where love grows out of safety, patience, and being seen clearly at the worst possible time. The duet is sensual, dramatic, and rooted in the question its titles keep asking, who is the person you were told to want, and who is the person you truly need.
