After her brother's murder, London knows she should stay away from Ace, the dangerous man who witnessed it. But when her own life is threatened, he is the only person who can protect her.
The Comeback
by Shanora Williams
2015
Three long years after losing Ace, London is forced to face the life she built without him. His return brings old love, buried truths, and dangerous consequences right back to her door.
Series background & context
Beware is the darker, earlier version of the London and Ace story, so the mood is tense from the first pages. London is grieving her brother's murder, and Ace is the one man she knows she should avoid. He was there the night everything went wrong. He knows more than he admits. He is also the only person in a position to keep her alive.
That setup gives the series its main tension. London needs answers, but Ace believes protecting her means holding things back. So their connection is built on a push and pull between desire and distrust. The books live in that uncomfortable space on purpose. He is magnetic. He is dangerous. She has reason to want the truth more than the romance.
It is not a soft story.
Across Beware and The Comeback, the series leans into crime-flavored danger, family loss, betrayals, and the cost of getting too close to the wrong person. The second book widens the emotional damage by jumping ahead and forcing London and Ace to deal with time, distance, and everything that happened while they were apart. That gives the duet a reunion thread on top of the suspense.
If you like dark contemporary romance with protective heroes, hard choices, and a heroine who refuses to stop asking questions, this is the shape of the series. It is emotional, moody, and more interested in survival and fallout than in easy comfort.
